Q:

What are the coldest and warmest temperatures that the Shields will still be effective in?

A:

The panels that the Shields are made from have a working temperature variation from -26 degrees F to 150 degrees F.

Q:

Does METT-T provide training for the various Clear Ballistic Shields an how they are used?

A:

METT-T will work with your instructors in an advisory capacity. We have lesson plans available to us from other departments that are using our Shields. We also have a power point presentation on our I.R. Shield that will be available on request. At METT-T, we share all of our training, lesson plans and incident information from agencies using our Shields.

Q:

How and with what can the Clear Ballistic Shields be cleaned?

A:

You can clean the Shields with a mild soap and water. Do not use any abrasive material or any type of solvents or cleaning chemicals that react with plastic. This will void your warranty.

Q:

Once ordered, how long does it take to receive the Shields?

A:

Depending on the size of the order, it usually takes at least two to three weeks. We also have to rely on vendors that produce our handles, brackets, etc. Any delay on their part can’t be controlled. We will do our best to expedite any of our orders and ship them as quickly as possible.

Q:

Can I order Shields other than the size that are advertise?

A:

Yes! We can build Shields to your specs. Just remember, the larger the Shield the heavier it will be.

Q:

What NIJ ratings do the Shields have?

A:

Our Shields were tested by HP White. We primarily deal with Shields that have an NIJ II and NIJ III-A rating. Our NIJ II Panels are 1 inch thick and our NIJ III-A panels are 1.25 inches thick. Please see the technical detail section on our Shields. (In in-house testing, our 1 inch panel (NIJ II) stopped a .44 mag. 240 grn. SJSP round which is rated a III-A round).

How many hits will the Shields take?

A:

One of our I.R. Shields (9.5 in. x 17.5 in.) has 11 hits of various calibers on it with no penetrations or unusual degradation and minimal spalling.

What type of plastic are the Shields made from?

A:

Our Shields are made from 2 layers of polycarbonate that sandwich 2 layers of acrylic. They are fused together by a PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) interlayer. The finished product is called a bullet resistant laminate. The different properties of the layers of polycarbonate and acrylic, stops the bullet with minimal spalling. The laminate varies in thickness and is UL (civilian) and NIJ (law enforcement) rated.
